The EU Horizon 2020 Food Trails Project is proud to present Food & The Cities: From Policy to Plate, a podcast series exploring the key role of cities in driving the sustainable European food system transformation, brought to you by Comune di Milano and Slow Food.

In 9 episodes, the podcast host, EU agri-food journalist and podcaster Natasha Foote, will guide you through engaging conversations with experts from the project’s consortium and Think Tank.

Topics include what we mean by “urban food revolution” (ep.2), the crucial relationship between food research and urban food policies (ep. 3) the importance of participatory co-creation approaches – like living labs – to start the change (ep. 4), urban food policy development (ep.5), monitoring the impact of food actions and policies (ep.6), peer learning to exchange knowledge and best practices (ep.7), andimpact investing in urban food systems (ep.8).

The series starts big in episode 1, with Rosalinda Scalia (Deputy Head of Unit at the EU Commission) and Anna Scavuzzo (Milan’s Deputy Mayor in charge of the food policy) setting the scene and the political context. Together, they explain how cities can support the EU in driving a sustainable food system transition and vice versa, illustrating the EU Framework to guide this change and concretely explaining what a funded project like Food Trails can achieve in this regard.

The series will culminate with episode 9, which presents the Food Trails policy recommendations, synthesizing key insights and lessons learned from four years of the project (ep. 9).

Throughout the series, each episode will highlight the pilot actions implemented by the 11 partner cities within their Food 2030-led Living Labs, offering real-world examples of how cities are pioneering sustainable food initiatives.

Starting from September 10, 2024, new episodes of the Food Trails podcast series will be released every Tuesday and Friday on Spotify.
